PARLEY

par·ley  |  pär-lē

verb: to hold an informal conference to discuss terms and resolve conflict; to speak, talk, or confer

Conflict is a normal part of everyday life that can be stressful. It can lead us to do things we might not normally do, or to feel paralyzed and uncertain. I help people understand the root of their conflict and empower them to own their piece of the mediation process to find sustainable solutions to the conflict and restore relationships.

Conflict Management Services

COVID-19 Response: Your health and safety are important to me. Online services are available and where safe to do so, in-person meetings may be possible.

Customized Training

Training can be an excellent vehicle to prevent conflict and disputes, or to help manage the next issue before it grows into a bigger conflict. Customized conflict management and communication training is tailored to meet your organization’s specific needs.

Conflict Coaching

Conflict coaching works with you one-on-one to increase your competence and confidence to manage interpersonal conflict and disputes at home, at work, and in the community. Through coaching you will gain clarity on your situation, develop insight and skills to manage the conflict, prepare for challenging conversations, and feel more confident.

Facilitated Conversations and Mediation

Facilitated conversations are confidential, voluntary, informal structured conversations between two or more people involved in a conflict who are helped by an impartial facilitator. The facilitated conversation helps people work toward a better understanding of each other’s point of view, identify areas of common ground, and develop better ways of communicating in the future.

Mediation is a confidential, voluntary, more formally structured process with a goal of resolving a specific dispute. The parties to the dispute make their own decisions through this process, not the mediator.

How many of us have conflicts in our home about the dishes?

This daily chore is one of the very things that helped bring me to the world of conflict management. I had the opportunity to live in residence while attending international schools in Europe where there would be 40 people from all over the world sharing just a couple sinks and a few stoves. It certainly brought on the conflict challenges!

When true change is calling, it always shows up in multiple places. As a young man, I did not like how I behaved in challenging conflict situations and who I was becoming. I set out to change that with my first conflict course in 2006. This eventually led me to study Advanced Mediation and Conflict Management at the European University Centre for Peace Studies (EPU).

Since 2009, I have worked in the conflict management field as a project coordinator, facilitator, mediator, coach and trainer. In addition to mediating, I have designed multiple conflict management programs on behalf of Mediate BC and CoRe Conflict Resolution Society, and offered training for arts organizations, non-profits, and post-secondary institutions. I have also been a lead facilitator for the North Shore Restorative Justice Society.

My passion is to help people understand the conflicts and conflict dynamics they encounter and navigate them to meet their needs and restore relationships.

Outside of conflict management, I sing in choirs and enjoy spending time exploring Whitehorse and the Yukon with my partner and our adventurous little puppy.
